Jonas Godwin began dancing at age 9 in his hometown Saint Petersburg, Florida at the Academy of Ballet Arts. He attended Pinellas County Center for the Arts at Gibbs Highschool where he trained in both Ballet and Horton Technique. During these years he attended a number of summer intensive programs including American Ballet Theatre, Alonzo King Lines Ballet, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, Pacific Northwest Ballet, and Chautauqua School of Dance in New York in 2016 where he received the Faculty Award for Technical Merit, and the Artistic Director award for Overall Excellence. He later accepted the invitation to join Charlotte Ballet’s 2nd Company under the direction of Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux. He danced here for 2 years before joining the corps de ballet of The Cleveland Ballet. He danced for 3 years under the direction of Gladisa Guadelupe performing roles such as the Cavalier in the Nutcracker, Ali in Le Corsaire, The Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland, as well as both Basilio and Espada in Don Quixote. In 2021 he joined Carolina Ballet under the direction of Zalman Raffael. He has performed numerous works of choreographers including Robert Weiss, Zalman Raffael, Lynne Taylor-Corbett, Amy Hall Garner, Gianna Reisen, George Balanchine and Jerome Robbins. A few of his leading roles here include the Pas de Tois in Swan Lake, Zalman Raffael’s Upward Fall, Claire De Lune, Ravel, and Glazunov Waltzes, Lynn Taylor-Corbett’s Chiaroscuro, and both Northwind and Cavalier in the Nutcracker.
