Lauren Lockhart began her dance training at age four at En Pointe School of Dance under the direction of Kathy Thomas-Law. Throughout her years at En Pointe, she trained in ballet, tap, jazz, modern, and contemporary, and she was also a senior company member of En Pointe’s ballet company. Lauren has always loved all dance styles, but in middle school she found a passion for tap dance, which eventually led her to take advanced tap classes at Southern Performing Arts Academy and to train under several influential tap instructors, such as Jason Kalish, Dan Youmans of Dan and Company, and Brandon Chitwood of Tap.a.ce.tic Live. Additionally, she has also had the opportunity to train under the American Tap Dance Foundation’s Christopher Broughton, Felipe Galganni, and Samara Seligsohn at the Joffery Tap Spectacular in Miami. In more recent years, Lauren attended Anderson University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies, as well as a minor in dance. While a student at Anderson University, Lauren trained in ballet, tap, jazz, modern, and musical theater, and she was also given the opportunity to perform and choreograph for the South Carolina School of the Arts.
Furthermore, in addition to her dance training and performance opportunities, at the age of 15, Lauren was given the opportunity to begin her teaching career, and this confirmed her love of dance and her desire to teach dance, a desire which began to develop when she was just five years old. She began by teaching creative movement and elementary tap at En Pointe School of Dance, and she has since gone on to teach tap, jazz, ballet, modern, praise in worship, creative movement, and adult dance classes at En Pointe School of Dance and Southern Performing Arts Academy. Lauren is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in New Testament at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and she is also very excited to be teaching dance once again at Destiny Dance Institute.
